Beautification
It's trash - discarded tires, broken appliances, construction debris, even hazardous materials - scattered in some of our favorite beach and coastal areas. This junk is not just an eyesore ruining the view; it damages the environment, endangers wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts, and affects tourism.
It's barren parking lots with cracked concrete, no trees, and wind-swept litter around the perimeter. Or, it's an overgrown abandoned vacant lot.
What are these places and how can we make them more inviting?
These are places in nature and in urban settings that need to be beautified. Whether that means picking up trash along a trail, or planting native trees and shrubs, our actions can make a big difference. When we create attractive, inviting, and ecologically balanced areas, we invite people and wildlife into these otherwise discarded places.
What you can do
It's easy to do. When you're hiking along a coastal trail on your way to the beach, pick-up litter and trash. If you find discarded tires, appliances, or other large objects, contact your local government to come pick up the item.
If you know of an area that could use some trees or other landscaping, contact your local government for advice and guidance on how to get a permit or access rights. And, be sure to contact a local nursery for advice on native plants.
